Think you’re not creative? Baloney. Everyone is. It’s innate and just about every aspect of life requires some measure of creativity. Think negotiating with a teenager, or coming up with a different sack lunch idea or managing a marriage or painting a picture or leading a staff. It all pulls from our creative muscle and we’re better off when we use it and allow our imagination to work.
Creativity is so essential to who we are as humans that it’s also part of our well being. Bigwigs think it makes for more satisfying relationships, it relieves stress, improves problem solving and fosters flexible thinking which helps us cope with crisis.
We get into trouble though when we try to create art or outcomes that measure up to the masters. When we can’t paint like Monet or a bake a pie like Mama we give up. Decide there’s no point in trying. Claim we’re not creative. But, it’s our life we’re creating, not a model or representation of someone else’s. We get to create our way.
It’s the process of creating that matters here, not what comes out of it. The Masters had their own way of creating their own life experiences . We must experiment and explore and play and find a way of releasing the creative energy into ours.
It’s life sustaining. Not only will you come up with a fine play-dough sculpture that sorta looks like a cat, but you’ll infuse your entire life with energy. And pretty soon all that burgeoning imagination and creativity you’ve reconnected with will flow through all that you do making your whole life a masterpiece.
